Fernando Araújo, who has practiced law since 1983, built his career in parallel to an outstanding academic performance. He was the first professor of Economic Analysis of Law (Law & Economics) at the College of Law of the University of Lisbon (1999-), and is the founder of the FDUL Private Law Research Center (CIDP), is the Director of its Bioethics section and the Director of the Portuguese-Brazilian Law Magazine (ISSN: 2183-539X).

With Aggregation (2007) and LLD (1998) in Legal-Economic Sciences, LLM in Historical-Legal Sciences (1990) and a bachelor of Laws degree from the Catholic University of Portugal (1982), he is the advisor of numerous LLM and LLD theses, and supervisor of Postdoctoral internships in Portugal and Brazil. Professor and lecturer at Colleges in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia, he participates in Conferences and publications in Economics, Economic Analysis of Law, Philosophy of Law, History of Law, Law of Obligations, Contracts, Bioethics, Animal Rights Law.

Fernando is also vastly experienced in Arbitration, being an Arbitrator in tax and commercial cases, in addition to a Jurisconsult and an Opinion Giver.

He chaired the Evaluation and Accreditation Commissions of Law Schools and Courses in Portugal (A3ES – Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Agency) (2011-2016) and the Brazilian Law Institute of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (-2014) , directed the Magazine of the Brazilian Law Institute (-2014), was a member of the Ethics Commissions of the Faculty of Medicine (2005-2007) and the Faculty of Pharmacy (2010-2017), was Assistant to the Office of the Ministry of the Presidency (1990- 95) and Advisor to the Office of the Secretary of State for National Defense (1995) and Advisor to the Executive Board of the Securities Market Commission (1998) in Portugal.
